Skin Regeneration

Dermabrasion is a procedure that involves mechanically and controlled abrasion of the superficial layer of the skin. It is commonly used to reduce the scars left by healing acne and raised scars on the skin surface. Other applications include tattoo removal, and the treatment of fine wrinkles around the mouth and face.

Dermabrasion reduces surface irregularities, such as indentations and protrusions, on the skin, making it smoother. The procedure can be described as the superficial layer of the skin being peeled off. When the superficial layer of the skin is removed, the stimulated cells in the underlying skin create a smoother, tighter, and fresher skin texture. If acne or scar marks are very deep, if the scars tend to heal as keloids or hypertrophic scars, if there are active acne lesions, or if there is a skin infection, dermabrasion is not appropriate. The procedure can be performed under local or general anesthesia depending on the size of the treated area. The patient can be discharged on the same day.

After the surgery, there may be a burning sensation that is not painful but rather discomforting. If the procedure is performed on the face, no bandage is applied, and the area is left open with the application of suitable ointments. Bandages are applied for 2-3 days in areas where clothing may come into contact. Bathing can be done within a few days following the surgery. The wounds typically heal and close within 7-10 days. After this stage, the person can return to their routine daily activities. After dermabrasion, the healed tissue appears pinkish in color. The pinkish color fades over time and returns to the normal skin tone.
